Amanda
I found photography in Grade 8. At 19, it has grown from the way I made sense of the world into the career I want to build for life.
I have always noticed the things others might pass by: a genuine smile, light through the trees, or a quiet, imperfect detail. I see beauty in the strange, the real and the overlooked.
Growing up was not always easy. In high school, relentless bullying made the world feel deeply lonely, and there were days when it was hard to see anything good around me. Photography became my escape and the way I learned to find beauty again.
When I looked through my camera, the world felt different.
I notice patterns, expressions, emotions and small moments that might otherwise be missed. My camera gave me somewhere to put feelings I could not always express, and taught me that seeing differently could be a strength.
That is why I founded Switzer's Photography here in Nanaimo. My mission is to help people see the beauty in themselves: to feel comfortable, accepted and genuinely seen, never as if they have to become someone else for the camera. To me, photography is not about perfection; it is about real people, real connection and the moments that make life meaningful.
Photography carried me through some of the hardest parts of my life. Now I want my work to help someone remember a person they love, a place they once stood, or beauty in an ordinary day.
I spent a long time feeling like I did not belong. Photography taught me that maybe I was meant to see the world differently — and that is exactly what makes my perspective worth sharing.

Outdoor locations around Nanaimo, BC — I'll suggest beautiful spots to match your vision. All Fall Mini Sessions take place at Colliery Dam Park in Nanaimo.
What are fall minis?
A limited seasonal offer at Colliery Dam Park in Nanaimo: 20 minutes, 8–10 edited photos, $55, October 19–23, 10am–6pm, only 10 spots. Every Fall Mini Session will take place at Colliery Dam Park. Book by DM or email.
Do you travel outside Nanaimo?
